Agency Blues

We fired our agency, even though I am sure they are laughing all the way to the bank since we do not get one penny back.  They did little to nothing for us and we paid them a TON of money.  I will not go into the specifics and there is more to this story, but I am happy to be rid of them.  Every time I spoke with them on the phone I hung up angry and it ruined my day.  Although we lost a lot of money, it is a relief to be rid of them.

We are in talks with another agency but nothing has been officially been set in stone (or writing).  We are contemplating changing countries but haven't made a concrete decision.

That's the latest, however vague it may be, and will post more as things happen.

xoxo

  1. I have heard of many people buying books and downloading the forms online and doing it themselves. I am sure it wouldn't be easy since I know my adoption wasn't easy doing it myself, but many times the courthouse does help out as well. With the forms part of it.

I have heard of this being done for out of country adoptions as well, since I know you're doing out of country.

Good luck in your venture. It's a very long process Karin. I am still waiting on the final amended birth certificates and my adoption was started December of 2008.

  2. When you switch to a new agency do you have to do all the steps that you've already done again?

  3. We have to pay another agency fee, and depending on which country we go through, will depend on the paperwork. Paperwork varies from country to country.

  4. That is awful. Sorry to hear that. Can you do anything at all? I mean is there a BBB out there that you can report them to? I am assuming that they took your money and did not provide the service they promised. 5. We signed many times on the dotted line "no refunds" so unfortunately we would never win that battle.

  6. That is so disappointing (I know that is an understatement). Really sorry for all of the headaches and heartache you have been put through. Hopefully a new agency will bring a fresh, smooth start. I don't know what agency you used, and I am a little afraid to ask beause I hope it's not the one we are using! I give you credit for taking a stand, I am sure it wasn't an easy decision, knowing you would lose all that money. I will be praying that you are matched with the perfect agency and cpmpetent people who will lead you to your child! Wishing you the best..

  7. Karin, I am so very sorry you have had such a difficult time with this. Making the decision to adopt takes so much commitment in itself and then having this happen is I'm sure disheartening. Would you be comfortable sharing which agency you did use? I'm with Brooke and hope its not ours, but I would rather know. Much luck wished to you and your hubby. Just know in your heart, your child is out there and God will lead you to him/her. You are in my prayers!

  9. I am sorry your frustrating experience, the whole process is really a lesson in patience. I have thought about changing or stopping many times. I was under the impression that there are only 2 agencies in America that do Polish adoptions: St. Mary's in NC and the Lutheran one in NY. I hope you guys get on the path that will make everything go smoothly!

  16. Karin -
We used Catholic Charities of Chicago for our 2 Polish Adoptions. I'm hoping that's not your agency. If its not, it may be another alternative for you to look into.

  17. No we did not use Catholic Charities... thanks for the advice!
